Streetsville SS offers:
- Two-credit Co-op (half day)
- Four-credit Co-op (full day)
Most students choose the four-credit option because it works best with their timetable at Streetsville and gives them the most realistic trial of the real work world.
Pre-Placement
The co-op students attend pre-placement classes for the first two weeks of the semester to learn about the world of work. Pre-placement topics include:
- Job-Readiness Skills (Student Preparation for the Workplace)
- Health and Safety
- Ethics and Confidentiality
- Employment Standards Act and Human Rights Act
- Role of Labour Unions
Integration
During their work placement, students attend integration classes one day every two weeks, where they share and reflect on their work experiences. Integration topics include:
- Reflection and Analysis of Placement Experience
- Relation of Placement Experience of Related Course Expectations
- Career Research
- Labour Market Trends, Changing Role of Women in the Workforce
- Human Rights and Discrimination
- Employment Standards Act and Human Rights Act
- Role of Labour Unions
Work Placement
Following pre-placement, students begin their work placements, working daily hours arranged by the employer and co-op teacher.
