Local 183 Construction Training Program

Co-op students at the Local 183 Training Centre build a house.

The Peel District School Board has partnered with the Labourers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Local 183 Training Centre in Vaughan to provide a six-week Co-op program. The program covers all aspects of construction, from reading blueprints, to pouring concrete, to laying bricks - and even high-rise forming - using the latest technologies and techniques. The program aims to get you ready for the job site. Students who successfully complete the six-week training session are entered into a paid 10-week placement. Class sizes are kept small (15-20 students) to give everyone an opportunity for a job placement. Local 183 also provides assistance to Habitat for Humanity.

Here's some reasons to join:

  • Earn 4 Co-op credits towards your high school diploma
  • Gain real-world, hands-on experience you can’t get in a classroom
  • Construction apprentices earn $15 an hour, which can almost double in little more than a year.

To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years of age and enrolled in Co-op/OYAP.
