Course Description:
This course is designed to meet the need of students seeking an introductory course in accounting theory. Basic concepts and theories of accounting are stressed, with accounting applications used to reinforce an understanding of theoretical principles. The accounting cycle (service and merchandising businesses), analysis of financial statements, multi-column journals, subsidiary ledgers, cash control and banking, form the core areas of study. Computerized accounting applications will augment the presentation of these principles.
Note: this course is the prerequisite for the Ontario Academic Credit in Accounting (BAC 0A0).

Course Objectives:
This accounting course serves as the prerequisite for further study at the OAC level, and subsequently at college or university.
Students will have the opportunity to:

Textbook - on loan, replacement cost if lost or abused
Notebook/Binder with dividers
Workbook - purchased from school, cost $10.00
Pen, Pencil, a Ruler and a non-programmable calculator
Statement of Expectations:
The student will be expected to display a willingness to learn, as evidenced by regular attendance, punctuality, consistent work, complete notebook/workbook, independent work habits, a sense of responsibility, and an ability to interact in an effective and considerate manner with other students, staff and equipment.
ABSENCE FROM CLASS IS DISCOURAGED. However, students who know ahead of time that they will miss a class MUST make arrangements IN ADVANCE. If there is an unplanned absence due to illness or emergency, the student MUST make arrangements with the teacher on the first day back at school to avoid a mark of zero on that day's work. This is the student's responsibility.
Content is cumulative - therefore the consequences of falling behind are severe. Regular attendance and homework completion from the beginning are the keys to success.
Daily homework will be assigned (and checked!!). The teacher is available for extra assistance as necessary - please make an appointment as soon as you are having difficulty.
